Team sport

A team sport is an activity in opposing teams which compete to win following codified rules. Each sport has a purpose (scoring a goal, dropping the ball in the opposing field, etc.), sometimes it provides a direct contact with the opponent (contact sports), other times it is played on a field where the two teams are separated by a conventional line (team games). The first step in learning to play a sport is to understand and learn to apply the most important rules. In addition, it is essential to acquire the basic techniques (fundamental movements) and to learn how to make the best use of the time and space of the game, as they are limited. It is also important to make the best use of each player’s different qualities, to know their role and what is expected of them, as well as to cope with the unexpected and to correct the mistakes of others. Finally, it is essential to know the organization of the team and the global most-widely used actions, to understand and to apply a game logic, through which we can prove that we have learnt the best way to use our resources and those of the team, in different and changing situations.
