Minerals

minerals

Minerals are the nutrients performing a protective function in the organism, with no input of energy. Minerals can be found in the form of salts and they are fundamental for carrying out the energy producing reactions. They are divided into macronutrients, stored in significant amounts in the human body (such as calcium, which is essential for bones and teeth structure, phosphorus, essential for the production of energy, magnesium, allowing for normal function of nerves and muscles, sodium, potassium, chlorine, sulphur) and trace elements, required in very small amounts (such as iron, essential for haemoglobin formation and of the enzymes involved in energy metabolism, copper, iodine, zinc).
