Throwing

Despite being instinctive, throwing is one of the most difficult fundamental movements, as it requires balance, concentration, aim, eye-hand coordination, ability to assess distances and trajectories, strength, power and speed. Technically, the throw (the hurling limb is extended) differs from the shot (the hurling limb is flexed at first). In the early stages of the throw, all movements should be targeted at finding a good positioning of the lower limbs at the end. The torso, arms and hands performing the throw should be involved in the last stage, as the arms act mainly to give direction to the throw. This movement pattern can be performed while standing still or moving and it may be aimed at a single distance performance, as in athletic throwing, or it may be the expression of a move, as passages in team sports.
