Mobility

Mobility is the motor skill that allows you to make movements exploiting the maximum range of motion. Thanks to mobility, articulations help implementing the movements in all possible directions as widely and fluently as possible, enhancing the effectiveness of the gesture. Mobility is affected by temperature (the heat increases it, the cold decreases it), possible traumas, sedentary lifestyle and individual anatomical characteristics, among which there are static elements (the joint structure and the ligaments quality) and dynamic elements (muscles stretchability and elasticity). Unlike other motor skills, mobility undergoes involution as the subject grows. This is why mobility needs constant training, developing all the joints in the body. It can be done through active and passive exercises and stretching.
According to its application in different movements, joint mobility is classified into:
- active mobility, that expresses itself through the largest articular movement caused by a group of muscles lengthening over another. This movement is performed without any external help;
- passive mobility, that expresses itself through the largest articular movement generated by muscles that are put into tension through the action of external forces such as gravity, the mechanical action of a teammate, a tool, etc.
