Drugs
Psychotropic substances are natural or artificial chemicals that act on the central nervous system. They cause mental changes (changes in psychology or mental activity) as well as damages to the body. Drugs affect the central nervous system, altering its functions therefore taking drugs is dangerous as it may cause irreversible neuronal damage, resulting in loss of ability to normally respond to stimuli and to control one’s own actions.
The amount of chemicals taken into the body often determines its damaging effect. In this regard, the intake can be distinguished between occasional consumption, that is intermittent and non-continuous experiences, and regular consumption, that is regular and continuous use that is addictive. Drug addiction can be physical, when the interruption of drug causes physical ailments (the withdrawal symptoms), and psychic, when the lack of drug causes a distressing need to procure it in the subject and it is linked to the consumption of any type of drug.
